An $800 difference in 2.66 to 3.0 GHz Xeon?
Actually, look at the Dell Precision 490 Workstation - going from dual 3.0 (Intel 5160) down to a dual 2.66 (Intel 5150) is $410/processor, or an $820 difference in price. Not Apple pushing that one.
I'm guessing any 8-core machine will initially be a top-entry (ala "fastest") if it is introduced too soon, and not affect the whole lineup. Otherwise I will have more trouble convincing myself to buy the dual 3.0 now :). That Mac + iPod promo ends this week!

You are probably new here, right? :rolleyes:
Yes I am. And fairly new to Apple (switched to Mac in 2006 and iPhone in 2007).
Does being new here mean that I have to learn how a corporation that just recorded at record net income of $5.23 billion is "DEAD"? If so, please enlighten me.
I have worked in finance for 35 years and only hold a Bachelors degree in Buisiness, but I'm sure from your response that you (and others here) know more about business than me. So please explain how the earnings report is an indication of impeding doom.... I'm always willing to learn from a group of experts!

OMG! Are you kidding me. This is outrageous.
You mean that my phone has been tracking all my comings and goings. Like how everyday I go to work, pick up the kids from daycare and take them home. Rinse and repeat. You mean there is a file with all those boring stats of my not so secret life. And to think next week I was planning on varying it up a bit. Maybe stopping off at acquire the essential items I need for my new job as a "cleaner" on my way to get the kids.
/end sarcasm/
The only people who will get bent about this are the ones who have no reason to be.

Or you could just buy a multi-port Thunderbolt adapter(that supports USB 3) for less than $10 when they are released making your half-baked scenario completely worthless.
I stop reading everything you said after this statement. You are clueless dude. Go back to school or finish school or jsut stop typing.

Has to have some back and forth that could be tracked.
Incorrect. You're confusing it with a location device. However as traffic receivers become more pervasive and ask you to report back for data. Yes.
Gps by default is not 2 way as I understand it.

The fact that the new iMacs can't address more than 3Gb of memory and are therefore operating on a 32bit logic-board makes me doubtful as to whether or not these systems are really 64-bit capable... It seems like some kind of hybrid 32/64bit system.
Will the C2D iMacs be able to run 64bit code, despite not having the 64bit address space (and being able to access over 4Gb or RAM)?
Uh.... The CPU is 64bits, and it DOES have 64bits address-space. And it runs 64bit code just fine. It just happens that the rest of the system it's hooked up to does not support 4+GB of RAM. But that has NOTHING to do with the "bitness" of the CPU. C2D is a 64bit CPU, period.
Hell,there has been 64bit CPU's and machines for long time (SGI and Sun comes to mind), yet back in those days even 1GB of RAM would have cost an arm and a leg. Yet those machines were 64bit machines.
As to logic-board being 32bits... Uh, no. There might be various reasons why it doesn't support 4GB of RAM, and it isn't due to "bitness" of the logic-board. And pray-tell: what exactly is a "32bit logic-board"?

Its also not great for many many many other people. You still base your ideas and arguments on the flawed notion that people have unlimited data and could still get it. I will also state again, I personally believe this will be some kind of add-on locker and not replacing local storage. I believe replacing local storage at this point would be a major mistake on Apple's part because it would negatively affect so many people...granted, not all.
i'm not ignoring any facts. u are being too technical. i have unlimited data but i use less than 2gb. my point is if u are places and it has free wifi, CONNECT to it...which is what i do at work and at home. streaming does not use a lot of data like you think.
look at the MBA. obviously it's not a computer for you. Doesn't mean it's not a great option for someone else. Storage is minimal and doesn't have a cd drive at all. This is all my wife and i use for a computer. It works great for us.
do you see now where the future is going with minimal hard drive space and no cd drive???

Another spin on all of this is the fact they just get 100 million from apple and now they decided to spend mega bucks on it over here in the uk up untill reacently we hardly sore a advert for ipods or apple computers saw a lot of adds for creative zen but bugger all for ipods which is better i wonder ie market leader who dosnt push the advertising or the people who advertise a lot and still dont have a large market share ....
To put it politely theres to many fingers in this pie and end of the day i know which system i prefer i aint saying its apple and its ipod either :D
Putting 4 periods after a paragraph doesn't make up for no periods in the paragraph itself.

99% of these are in a huff self important 'tempest in a teapot' stories;
its not required-nay not even helpful to be a fanboy to point this out-just 2 good eyes and a brain;
Alway been complainers, always will be;
If the rules are clearly spelled out and they dont follow them-then they shouldnt be crybabies in public
simple
CAREFULLY read APPLEs developers rules
follow them
dont try to breach them
you dont need a PhD to understand this

Prior to the date being given out for the press event I was fully expecting a new MBP at Photokina.
However now given that it is on a Sunday I see no hope of an update. They wouldn't take down the store on a Sunday whereas the Apeture update will either be a free download or a preview of a 2.0 App therefore needing no major store changes.
PS Is there any precedence of hardware updates on a Sunday?
It's a special event, so I see no reason why Apple cannot take the online store down for a couple hours. The new iMac 24-inch was introduced on a Wednesday rather than a Tuesday. Perhaps Apple will just announce Aperture 2.0 and then new MacBook Pros will be released that Tuesday. Ah, I don't know! Anything can happen with Apple... :)
Oh and as for the update to Aperture 2.0 being free, I highly doubt that will happen. The only way I can see it being free is if it was a minor update, like to version 1.2. Apple wouldn't hold an event for a minor update, though, so 2.0 it is!

Sorry, that post was just me airing my thoughts and seeing what other people had to say. I wasn't making any claims, I don't know a lot about 64-bit computing. Glad my ignorant thoughts turned out to be wrong though!
I just assumed that being 64-bit or 32-bit was a system wide principle, either or.

Maybe you're right, maybe not... I mean, I doubt the guys went in in Kevlar suit saying "we take the loot, not matter what. If someones try to stop us, we kill him". In a bank robbery maybe they would but I doubt they were ready to kill somebody only for a few iPads...
But that's just me.
And in the heat of the moment with fractions of a second to decide, he's suppose to consider the possibility that this guy just wants a free iPad and probably won't shoot to kill him?
I don't think so.

This would be a really cool thing if they allow you to stream to your iPhone and use it with an iPhone compatible head unit in your car. That way I could carry some music on my iPhone for listening in the car and if I got bored with what I had or just wanted something different, I could stream from this cloud-based service.
There are a few head units that allow you to stream Pandora from your iPhone through your car stereo. Why not have your whole library like that?

Co-branding is a better idea because yes, unless they make a camera that would take Canon or Nikon lenses on their own it would be a failure as a pro tool.

It's an option in iTunes, right on the main sync page when you choose your device. Nothing obscure.
Glad you noticed my advice way back on page 4 post no. 89. I know submitted it for a reason.

Admittedly, I am definitely waiting for the C2D, but I am joking in this particular thread. It's always possible they could release it, but it's not likely. I didn't expect any computer upgrades at the iPod/iTunes show either.
