Don't cry - a tablet would be the absolute worst interface for edit digital photos, so there's absolutely no chance that'll be happening at photokina.

Hrm... for aperture i'd agree probably, but i'd be interested in trying one out with Capture NX :D

I bought The Ladykillers and got the movie in 40 minutes. I watched it on my iMac (last Intel-model, 17") and the quality was really great. Might be slightly softer than DVD quality, but color, detail, everything is really sharp. Not at all like the TV shows. Chapter skipping is great....no complaints, really. I doubt I'll be buying many movies, but I'll certainly buy again when the selection improves.

    My Netflix account stays, though.

You deserve a bad rap:rolleyes: There is nothing illegal going 5 under.

I don't know about your state, but here in Quebec, it is illegal to ride in the left lane if you're not passing. The left lane is a passing lane. A lot of idiots just roll there, doing the "limit" and then you have to pass them on the right, which is also illegal and dangerous or wait behind them.

The fact that the kid road raged a bit doesn't change the fact of this thread : There are a lot of people who still think "left = fast lane" which is completely wrong. "left = passing lane". If you're not passing, move over to the right.

A little curtesy prevents road rage episodes. On both sides. The OP might not have been right in his behavior, but to say the lady wasn't doing anything illegal is also wrong and shows that you are as a bad a driver as the OP if you fail to recognize it.

The fault doesn't just lie with the OP and everyone defending the lady and bashing the OP is wrong. You should be bashing both equally.

I'm betting it will be. :)

If you compare their investment in R&D to what they manage to churn out, it's pretty sad.

That can be viewed another way. Apple is too cheap to bother risking anything that is not a sure bet.

MS willing to risk R&D and a lot of R&D on things that might be a dead end.
MS R&D is more like a university Research compared to Apple R&D that is only about profit.
Guess which one adds more better for the people. Correct answer is not Apple

I'd be rather concerned about Apple's margins considering we're comparing a hardware company to a software company (free duplication of your product, once you've gotten past the millions in R&D to develop it) that has a captive market as large as Microsoft's (guaranteed sales to pay for your R&D easy, and a very large price point at $200-$300 a pop for Windows and Office).

However, maybe it's Microsoft that should be concerned; either Apple has disgusting margins, or Microsoft's other divisions are simply squandering their revenue so bad that they are essentially subsidizing the entire company with Windows/Office.

Of course that's the ideal answer but an impossible answer. So again, Google or your device/computer?

I'd rather have Google or Apple for that matter having that information in their servers, than it being in a unencrypted file on my phone or on my computer.

What Apple has done here is giving anyone with access to either your phone or your computer a way to track your movement. And that person would not need to either install something or deal with encrypted files. The person tracked would have no clue that it's happening.

Once again, it's shown that when it comes to security and encryption, Apple needs to improve their game.

But, it's great thing for jealous husbands who would want to monitor what their wives are doing.

News flash... your cell phone provider already has all this data anyways. It's somewhat disturbing that Apple decided to store it in cleartext, but who cares? Mobile security is nonexistant anyways.

well here's the kicker for the fools who fall for these gimmicks.
you can donate directly and it's a tax write off as a charitable contribution.
or, you can buy the same boring lollipop, in 10 different colors, and see this 5% go towards the charity which apple will gladly pony up as it will benefit them after their returns and reports are done.

so i gotta ask, why bother justifying your purchase as "good will"?
why not just call a spade a spade and say...durr durr durrr?
Because in America, philanthropy is an afterthought to consumerism.

Where have you been since 1945? You gotta keep up with the Joneses. Now can out-Jones them by saying you CARE. In addition to having purchased the latest hot toy, of course.

I don't really see this happening, if apple is going to take the risk of entering this competitive market, I see them doing it with a very innovative 'new' product.

Hi people. Take a quick look at this working prototye.

    http://www.cameraphonefocus.co.uk/minor_brands/pilotfishsynaptics_onyx_button.php

I understand that Synaptics is a company Apple already has a working relationship with.

It kinda gets the juices flowing when you consider the possibilities. No more crap mobiles, I hope.

    Regards

Do you know a Tivo is a computer? It has a microprocessor and runs Linux. However, they don't try to make it a computer. That is why their idea has caught on.

That, and they keep the cost low by subsidizing it with subscriptions. A box for sale has to be cheap, and a device that just streams video, no hard drive at all, could be even cheaper than a tivo.

Is a streaming box really what you want? I mean, it's one thing to connect my airport express to my bose stereo system and let it play a playlist from my computer in my office, but if we have a streaming video, we still have to go to our office and start the video from the other room. If that's the case, I might as well move my computer to my living room.

They will have to have something that allows you to access your audio and video files with a remote. Maybe an aiport express with a remote control and user interface similar, but better than frontrow.

Right now a mac mini can do all of the things you need it to. You can stream video from another computer on the network, you can connect it to your T.V. and stereo. What would be the point of a new airport extreme if for $200 more you can get an entire compuer.

    just some random thoughts...

A streaming box is DEFINITELY what I want. I assume they will have a remote available for this, not having one would be a deal breaker and I doubt they'd release this half baked.

A mini can do this, but starting at $599, it's going to be more than $200 more than an airport video. And I'd much rather have my mini somewhere else in the house so I don't have to try and read the menus on my NTSC TV, or have a monitor next to my TV.

If you're like me, you don't have your Mac right next to your TV. Not only would I have to string a DVI/HDMI cable aaaall the way across the room, I would also have to get an equally long digital audio cable. Probably end up costing about the same as a video AirPort Express (if they keep the prices the same) but with the added hassle of getting those cables across the room.

This would be a lot less expensive than buying a Mac mini, especially if you already have a powerful desktop just waiting to play some HD videos...Apple seems to agree with you. They want you to buy lifestyle products that complement your Mac and the iLife apps, as opposed to a sepearte 'Media Center' type hardware.

For me personally, I fantasize about an inexpensive media server that connects to your TV and stereo components and also streams movies, music, photos, etc. to individual computers in your household. It'd basically be a Tivo on steroids. I think this device too can complement the rest of the Mac-iLife world quite nicely.

This product cannot come soon enough.

Every single phone on the market stinks.

My wife buster her phone today, and called me for a recommendation. All she wants as a Mom is a phone with a long battery life and great reception.

She left the Cingular store with a crappy phone with a million features she will never use.

It should not have dual Thunderbolt. It should have 1 Thunderbolt (without DisplayPort if required) and 1 DisplayPort 1.2

The discrete graphics chips in the new iMacs support up to 6 displays (including built-in), but this is crippled by Thunderbolt.

The same happens with the discrete graphics of the MBPs, which could support up to 4 or 6 displays (including built-in).

And the other 14-16 hours of the day where I'm not at home, but at work, traveling, at coffee shops, walking, relaxing, jogging, etc.?

You do realize iPods are portable music players right? Meaning they likely get most use outside of the home.

you won't have access to it like pandora so you wont' have to worrry.....

again, if you are unlimited or bigger data cap it won't matter.

plus my work has wifi...i'm sure a lot of other people have the same.

I'd take the 13" MBP screen over the 13 MBA screen every day of the week, much better quality in every way apart from the small resolution increase. The MBA screen is cheap and nasty (yes I owned both, sold the 2010 Air to buy the 2011 13 MBP)

what's the difference in the screen specs? i saw the air's screen at the apple store and it looked pretty nice to me

The very fact that all laptops contain mercury in their displays, the very fact that apple is one of the only computer companies that no longer sells mercury-laden CRT screens (As mentioned by another in an earlier post Thank you DELL!) makes this a complete and utter wank.

I've decided the SB refresh on this machine will be my next purchase, it's perfect for me in school and I no longer need the powerhouse MBP I have now.

I just didn't wanna buy a C2D, the nVidia IGP is nice yes, but I don't game on my MBP as it is, so what do I have to lose other than weight..

What about the Mac Pro? It's way past due, would that come first, before the iMac?

The Mac Pro is NOT overdue! No update until spring 2012 when SB server chips are readily available.
