This is huge news. Where is everybody?!?
Am I the only one here who thinks this is gigantic news? I can hear a pin drop. The stunned silence is deafening. ;)
I agree - this is really something. As has been noted, it's just huge the increase in a short amount of time - the original Core release was only a short while back, then Core 2 Duo - which just made it into the iMacs - and now the Core 2 Quad release date of Mid-October! The pace is just astounding.
Not only that, but as Arn and others note, the Quad Xeons are on the way as well. So, there is the path for 8 core Mac Pros in the very near future.
Quad core iMacs, 8 core PMs (opps, I mean Mac Pros) - oh my.
This amazing chip release rate - and significant increases each - will really put Apple to the test in terms of updating products quickly to stay competitive in terms of hardware release. In the past, Apple had to deal with chip upgrades so infrequently. It's a great problem to have, I suppose.
I also echo the comments above re: isn't this the kind of thing that makes you glad Apple switched to Intel? Absolutely.

Don't pull it!!!!!
I'm NOT in favor of drinking and driving, but I am in favor of freedom. I don't like the idea of ANY government control over things like this. Too many darn laws to begin with.
I downloaded this app. It's pretty cool! The DUI thing is like the least useful. There is all sorts of good traffic info on this app. Love it!

What else would you expect to hear? No company would just bow down and give up....
Samsung couldn't pull out on any existing deals, otherwise they'd be in breach of contract.
while they can not break out of existing deals it can effect future deals.
As for the current agreement when things like Apple sueing Samsung happens and Samsung is a major supplier this is when shipments get delayed or start arriving late. Apple falls to down on the list as clients that are important when supplies run short.
If Apple needs a rush order guess what not going to happen. Generally you do not want to piss off your big supplier because they can cause you a world of problems with out breaking any contract.

...which is still a bottleneck.
So what's your point? You like moderetly better bottlenecks?
I'd rather eliminate them altogether.
:confused::confused::confused:
Have some new tech that you'd like to share with us?

Question: Will gapless iPod playback be 5/5.1G feature only? My 4G is sitting here feeling left out.

My only problem is there doesn't seem to be an education discount right now on the new iPods. Just 249 and 349.

It makes me grin a little when I see posts like in this thread posted by people who obviously have no shortage of money (with their multiple mac systems) and yet dont want to hand over a little money for something thats been out for 5 years and makes the audio elements of airplay completely redundant.
Sonos. Easier, way better quality, more options, fully upgradeable, completely unrestrictive. And it just works.
For videophiles get a popcorn hour, 1080p streaming goodness which plays formats Apple TV can only dream of.
To host the content (if you dont want to buy an internal hard drive for Popcorn Hour) a simple NAS.
No computers involved, music playing in multiple rooms (same music or different tunes) sourced from iTunes, CD rips or Napster / Pandora / Spotify or internet radio all at the same time (if you so wish) and rips in beautiful uncompressed cd quality FLAC all synced (if you want to link rooms) at exactly the same time. Movies playing in any format you want, at any resolution you want wherever you want to stick the PH.
Airplay is so antiquated, limited in function, and completely way below whats been out for years in terms of quality, im amazed anyone even reads Airplay threads, let alone puts any money towards the system.
A NAS, Sonos and Popcorn Hour is all you need for your cd less, dvd less, blu ray less entertainment systems. But anyway, carry on bashing your heads against the Apple system.

Okay, a FrontRow/AirPort Express/iTunes-downloadable Media Center device is SWEET!! I bet that is EXACTLY what we see Apple delivering!!
Now my bet is on that Apple has been watching this thread to see what we come up with and will now halt the announcement of this great device to punish us all:rolleyes:

You sound like a pain in the ass to have as a customer.
No actually I just want my bills to be correct. If that makes me a pain in the ass, then so be it. If someone that I am paying to provide me a service keeps screwing up my bills, and then say that they will have it fixed on the next billing cycle and then it doens't show up until a quarter of a year later. I guess that is too much to expect out of a company. I also deal with customers on a daily basis, so I know what is expected from a service provider.

I guess Apple should'a put Conroe in the iMacs. Is there a chance this will mean Conroe will be in MacPro's?
It seems Apple could just wait for Clovertown...

which appears to be 2 Woodcrests on one processor. Could we see 8-Core Mac Pros' in 2007?

time to do research?
if you are not doing anything wrong, what is there to worry about?
Because the definition of "wrong" can be changed and stretched by the government. Think "Red scare".
But since you're so open, why don't you go ahead and give me the password to your Email account?

They're really not going to let this go are they...
Companies REALLY want to use "App Store" instead of coming up with their own.

I said I'd bet, not give. As in you pay equal money if this turns out to be right. And it's a figure of speech.
Well, I for one wish apple would come out with this thing already. I would pay my savings just to end the anguish (figure of speech, hat tip QCassidy352)! Bury the Chocolate! I hate seeing that iPod wanna-be!

I wonder if it will still be called the iTunes Music Store?
Or will they even bother calling it iTunes at all... :p

Guessing it'll just be a lot thinner. Maybe SSD's or Flash storage instead of HD's. Perhaps we can kiss the Superdrive goodbye? Either way, curious to see what they have in store :) Bringing back the blackbook would be pretty cool too.
They already have that product...it's called the MacBook Air.

Wasting breath on a comment like this isn't even worth it.
OH whatever Apple is great. Apple is god. Apple can do no wrong. It was that way for a while, and they will always be better then Windows, god knows I hate windows. Now, they are slipping.

yes, new imac's will come, but sadly the will probably come without:
1- Matte screen option
2- USB 3
3- Blu-Ray
apple will just give consumers part of the options they want.
If they have a matte screen option for the new iMacs, I'll buy one. If not, then I'll hold out for some future update.

What about the Container Store, which is trademarked? Seems like the difference is whether or not the term is in common use before the trademark is filed.
I'm not disagreeing with you, but can you, (or anyone,) provide a link to something showing "Container Store" is TMed?
Update;
I can find "The Container Store" but not "Container Store"

Why does anyone doubt that the new Air will be outstanding? My money is on Apple doing a nice job on the Air as they did with the MBP.
