Deepti Naval's Profile
The sweet lady who became famous for her portrayal of frail but mentally tough characters in films like Mirch Masala, Ek Baar Phir, Main Zinda Zinda Hoon and Damil? She’s back after a long hiatus.
For a brief period of time, she was preoccupied with her relationship with Ashok Pandit. He encouraged her to resume photography, one of her passions. When she made the serial Thodasa Aasman, he played the role of her husband. Now she is doing a serial, Muqammal, which portrays her being involved with four men including one who is younger than her. She may also direct a film in future. However, she says that she has a variety of roles that have to be tackled as an actress before she gets ready to direct. Film buffs agree – direction can wait. They are looking forward to seeing her on the silver screen once again
Deepti Naval Chashme Baddoor with Farooque Shaikh was one film to be remembered. Some of her movies include Katha,Saath Saath, Mirch Masala, Deep ek Ghar , Saudagar, Yalgaar, Pyara sangam, Guddu, Jai Vikraanta, Sautela Bhai
Deepti Naval’s was recently seen in the role of a single mother based in the US in Leela. She is now busy playing the role of a widow having an affair with her paying guest in the flick Freaky Chakra. Trust Deepti to choose offbeat roles, which are sure to cause a stir. Deepti, though, says that she found the role challenging and that was the only reason that she accepted. She was initially very unhappy by the way a particular love scene was shot. So the whole sequence was re-shot. This lady always gets her way.
There is also room for audiences to compare her contrasting roles, that of a successful housewife in Shakti and of a widow in Freaky Chakra. Deepti is unhappy that many scenes have been edited from the latter. According to her, not many accept women taking the lead in a love scene. She opines that in reality, there are many instances where there are older women having relationships with younger men. Since women no longer look at relationships in a conventional manner, perhaps films should follow suit.
Her future projects include a Marathi period film by Amol Palekar, co-starring Sonali Bendre and Anant Nag. Interestingly, the theme is about a woman’s sexuality. Deepti states that though she portrays roles of repressed women, she has never any repression from her father or husband or the other men in her life.
