This is not about illegal immigration, this is bout how sheriff Joe uses the nativist sentiment of Arizona for his own political interest. I have been residing in sheriff Joe's jurisdiction for 5 years now and violent crime has gone up more than 60%. Response time to emergency calls is up drastically, and I have personal experience of that. There are 40,000 felony warrants pending on sheriff�s desk, and yet he takes his 50 deputies for so called illegal immigration sweep, which contributes only fraction of a percent to the number of deported illegals from Maricopa County. He has been absolutely successful in creating an anti illegal image that keeps him in his seat for years.

I am starting to see a trend in the receipt notices.
Some of the people reporting getting recepit notices this week (yesterday and today) have LUDs of 07/28/07. My thinking is that This week will see receipt notices for everyone with an LUD of 07/28/07
HOPEFULLY next week will see receipt notices for 08/05/2008. This is just my observation.
People please post your LUDs for your I-140, the service center AND how your receipt numbers start (SRC vs LIN) each time you post a receipt notice.
Can you let us know how to access LUD from USCIS after login? I think many will appreciate if you do so

My 140 LUD is 08/05/2007 and was approved from SRC. I agree with EB3_Nepa on this. My guess is that recent updates in the LUD means that 485 is filed in the service center that did NOT process your 140.

No green card for you. Just work well for 6 years, enjoy life in US, enjoy sports cars by renting, not by buying, rent a big house, have a lawn and garden in back yard, grow your own vegetables. Have nice vacations like Hawaii, Jamaican islands, Vegas, Porto Rico etc.,Have fun in life. Do not go for green card. After 6 years, get nice job in India,own apartment near to office and ask your parents to live with you. Take kids to school . Have fun with them. Try to become director, AVP,VP,SVP,CEO,CTO and President. Do not go for green card. After you become director, buy a single family home and mercedez or BMW and have fun. Retire by the time your kids become earners. Grow vegetables in back yard. Do gardening and have fun. Thats how life should be. Do not hope for green card. H A V E F U N.
Completely agree with you here. Puts the quest for GC in perspective. Understand that everyone's situation is different, but is it really worth it to put your life on hold, that too based on the whims of USCIS?!? Just a thought. 10 years ago, the standard of living gap between India and US was so large, it made perfect sense. The gap isnt that huge any more. For some of us stuck in EB3, it could mean another 5-10 years wait. By then the gap would have closed some more. So looking back at that point in time will the sacrifices be worth it? Once again, there is no right or wrong answer, but just cant help wondering.

It is good idea. And ofcourse better than visa number, EB1/EB2/EB3 and all other crap. Countries like UK, Canada, etc. have similar kind of immigration policies.

Your story about how you are affected by retrogression/back log etc. It could be as simple as 'I have a BS in Engineering and am stuck in back log for 2 years and cannot fulfil my dreams professionally' to 'I have a PhD in Nuclear Science and US needs me coz there are only a handful of us!' Anything and everything works.
I have literally recieved stories of stay at home moms (because of H4 they cannot work) to folks who have been interviewed by MIT! The whole spectrum helps.....please please send us your stories...we need all the weapons when we go face the senators on behalf of IV

Not sure why you are still fighting this. I am sure law-makers are aware of the way USCIS implements the law and they don't seem to have any objections.
From the 2006 "CRS Report for Congress" on "U.S. Immigration Policy on Permanent Admissions"
Prior to FY2001, employment-based preference immigrants were also held to percountry ceilings. The American Competitiveness in the Twenty-First Century Act of 2000 (P.L. 106-313) enabled the per-country ceilings for employment-based immigrants to be surpassed for individual countries that are oversubscribed as long as visas are available within the worldwide limit for employment-based preferences.
It might actually be counterproductive as you might inflect negative sentiments against increasing overall EB-immigration level demanding improportional increase for 'top immigrant-sending countries'.
As the State Department describes, the per-country level �is not an entitlement but a barrier against monopolization.�
Please try to read law carefully. The law will not have simple terms as you think. They have to draft the law in the language of the act. Any way the meaning is same.

hello guys, i just went through all the 6 pages but still am confused.

Last Name- Ravneet.
one every US document including SSN, License, Job, its listed as FNU Ravneet.
I am on F1 visa, working on my OPT. My student visa just expired but my OPT-EAD is valid till june09. I feel very embarassed when asked" how do u say ur first name", I need to have it changed, could somebody tell me step by step the process involved.
I can drive to NY consulate and have my passport changed, but then how to change every US document, I mean would a expired US visa be a issue? My EAD is valid and I am legally in status. Please guide!

I believe as per the current rules CIS routinely assigns the PD of the substitute labor as the PD of the replacement worker.
What Rajiv Khanna says is very fair, but unfortunately CIS is not run by Khanna. In any case, can you please post the link to the aforementioned blog.
I read on Rajiv Khanna's blog that PD for LC substitution cases should be the date when I-140 is filed for substitute however, there is evidence that USCIS has wrongly assigned orginal priority date of LC filing, to substitute (I have seen this happening in one case at least, where susbstitue got priotity date of LC).

He was awarded the Nobel prize in literature in 2003. He is now settled in Australia.

I am going to take the liberty of putting together an agenda for the conference call, just to make it more productive. I can play scribe for the call.
The call will be for a maximum of 60 mins, unless someone wants to take it longer than that.
1. Quick introductions - State your name - GC application stage. - 10 mins
2. Brainstorming session -- 20 mins
2. Volunteers who want to be part of the smaller sub-group need to come forward. -- 5 mins
This is purely to get thoughts/ideas streamlined. Everybody needs to chip in once the action plans are drafted.
3. Volunteers to exchange contact information. -- 10 mins
4. Miscellaneous -- 15 mins (if needed)
Please add more items if you feel they are necessary.
I will try to scrape all the ideas generated in this thread and will summarize for the call. If anyone wants to post more ideas/comments/suggestions/criticisms, go right ahead and post.

I think the purpose of this thread is totally lost.
I am not sure how STEM or F1 or whatever should be a discussion here.
Anything we start here ends up in an acrimonious debate and many a time becomes very unpleasant and personal.
What are we all here for? Is it not our idea to to bring some relief to the EB immigrants?
Once again I request one and all to kindly refrain from unpleasant debates and think of working together for the welfare of the EB2 / EB3 community.
If we have our objectives clear and work towards a common goal, we sure can achieve success!
