Thank you to the IV core, thank you to the members of this board.
Thank you to all the people who took the initiative, and also to the people who had the foresight to support those initiatives.
Thank you to all that contributed money( I myself have contributed only once; I pledge more in the future), time, and effort.
Finally thanks to every one who lent us a sympathetic ear, to every one who doubted IV, to all the nay sayers who strengthened our resolve.
Finally once more to IV for uniting us all.

In my opinion keeping donation options from $25/- upwards to whatever max value within One time and recurring categories would be inclusive startegy.
Currently we are turning away the members who want to donate but who can not afford and/or do not want to donate $ 100/- and upwards.
My personal theory is that who is really willing to donate $ 100/- and upwards and can afford is going to donate that handsome amount even if we keep $ 25/- option.
Now Ball is in court of core.
I beg to differ. IV is not turning away anyone. What stops someone from contributing $100 once every 10 months?
The issue is something else.
In order to contribute even $10, you need to:
1) be convinced about the cause of IV
2) be convinced this organization means business!
3) give up the "penny wise pound foolish" attitude
(1) This should be easy for those who were unable to file their AOS applications in July/August 2007, because one of IV's primary goals (abolish retrogression) should then be your goal.
This is also easy for those who filed their AOS, if only they realize that "working on AC21/EAD" is not as much fun as it seems, you really need the Green Card to live and work the way you want!
(2) is a proven fact, and most of us are already enjoying the benefits of this!
(3) Finally, people feel overwhelmed by the thought of donating $50 or $100 to IV but they are happy to spend much more on gasoline, phone-calls, and drinks. You make no difference to your quality of life when you spend $50 on gas and $100 on food when you go sight seeing on a weekend. But when you donate that money to IV, you are supporting the one and only grass roots organization that means business when it comes to fighting for your own quality of life!
It's like investing in a "credit score" monitoring product for a year before you actually apply for a loan!
If that analogy makes sense, please please realize you need a similar strategy for your green card, and contribute to IV.
Preferably, sign up for recurring contributions, as this is the one thing that will help IV in forecasting and planning.
If nothing else, write to a core team member and let them know you will pay $N1 over N2 number of months.
Thanks!

Who can sue them? A non-US citizen? An organization?
A US Citizen can ask for a PIL??
USCIS gives a rats ass to US citizens. I know cases where they have told US citizens (caucasians) to f*ck off. They have changed their tone these days but the message is the same. I saw a posting at some US web site that politely asks US citizens to f*ck off.
Any one can sue them. The question is : what will you get? What did Khanna get?

I will contribute $25.
How to contribute? I have a regular payment going out to IV. How to ensure this one goes to this separate bucket and not mixed with the general contributions.
If this has been discussed in the middle of this thread - please consider updating the first post with the info so that we don't have to dig through pages of discussions to find it.

Voted yes.
A suggestion - when you figure out how we should send money to you, please send an email to all members as I do not check IV message boards very often.
Thanks.

I have a nine month old and I can understand your feelings. I hired a nanny through sulekha but did a lot of reference checking and tried her when my parents were around here in US and they monitored her carefully and then gave us the green signal to keep her before they left.
So not all nannies are like that. There are good nannies too. I pay a lot of money a lot more compared to what thunderbolt quoted ONLY because we found her to be nice and caring. She gets calls from her earlier employers who say their kids want to speak with nanny and say hello.
It is just your bad luck. Nannycams are very useful and plan to get one for myself just for my satisfaction even though we are happy with our nanny.
Like someone suggested - daycare would be a good option and I even thought about it but a 8 month old kid may catch alleriges easily and thats why I backed off too.
Now about legal recourse - the best thing is to get out of any kind of mess. You were aware that you must not hire a nanny illegally and now you pay the price. No problem. Just say good bye to her and be careful next time

Also, can people update their information? If you have provided your email addresses as something like "aATaaaaa.com, abc@defgh.com", then shame on you. ;)
If there is a legitimate reason to send emails to you from IV, why should it bounce? Also why are you scared to provide an email address to IV (it can be a yahoo, gmail, hotmail address too).

Just an idea, if someone can spend some time near the office videotaping flower arrivals, we can do a piece on youtube. It can potentially get more media attention if the media does not catch up immediately.
Good backup plan!
But anyone video taping the USCIS office can get arrested... security issue u see! Someone could setup a camera pointing at the entrance. I do not know the legality of that! If this could be done without harm... then it is good!

Its already there. 20000 for masters and phd students.
Giving GC to stem is to bypass them from EB based line, which means they won't consume numbers from 140k. Isn't this good?
Nope it is not good
Why do STEM graduates have to have it the easy way while we have it hard. The least the STEM graduate can do is wait for 2 years for visa

If you are really serious do that. All the time we are blaming IV is not doing enough. Now we have lot to do but dont have enough resources. Please come forward and help.

i guess with more EB3 folks moving to EB2, it will help those of us who are stuck with no option to move to EB2. :)
i think they need to make a rule where if you are stuck more than 5 years due to retrogression, all over flow visas need to be first given to those folks in the order of PD.

I am not the prototypical IV member in that I have only been on the H1-B visa since 6 months after graduating with my masters .. my company hasn't even started the GC process yet. So my interest in legal immigration reform is more from the perspective of someone who will enter the GC pipeline in the near future rather than one currently stuck in the BEC/retro mess.
I began working for my current company (a high-tech start-up) as an intern when I was still a student .. my work on a prototype VoIP solution for cellphones helped the company win a second round of venture funding .. and needless to say, created lots of jobs through company expansion. I am currently very well placed in my company and seem set for a good future with them.
However, seeing the plight of other, more senior talented EB folks here stuck in limbo, i am seriously re-considering my options .. I think its better to switch to a plan B now, rather than invest several years of time and emotional effort in my career here only for me to be stuck in legal and professional limbo. I have already applied for canadian permanent residency, and if the status quo continues, I will have little hesitation in moving there, to a company in my area of expertise. I assure you that several of my classmates are in the same boat as me. If the GC system is not fixed anytime soon, I am fairly sure the retro issue will disappear by itself in few years time .. coz there will be no more applicants left to be enticed by this american mirage.

Read CHANGE OF NAME ON AN INDIAN PASSPORT - www.indiacgny.org (http://indiacgny.org/php/showContent.php?linkid=229&partid=223&sub=sub3)
I think your case falls under "In all other cases.."
And that is the process you will have to follow i.e Newspaper Ads as mentioned by ramaonline earlier in this thread.
I got the affidavit notarized at a UPS store. Most stores have a public notary who notarize forms for $5. Now I'll be going to the New York consulate again to see if all is ok or not!
Here is my situation:
My daughter doesn't have last name in her passport. As I understand last name can be added to her passport at Indian consultate. Now how can we change her name in all USCIS documents - 485, AP,H4 visa. Do we need to have US court order for changing name with USCIS as mentioned by someone ?
Please share your experiences if someone have changed name with USCIS and how would that process work ? Does it need to be done by attorney or can we do it ourselves ?
Thanks,
