It seems these ads are almost a carbon copy of US versions which are translated into Japanese.
Except for the first one, which is a play on words with "Mac" and "work," which when pronounced in katakana Japanese rhymes with "Mac."
In that US version ad, the Japanese chick says the PC guy looks like a "otaku." I think "Otaku" is roughly translated to homeboy (stay-at-home guy or geek).

Pardon my ignorance. I've never used a server before, but now that it is being opened up for free in Lion, is this something that I could benefit from? What can it be used for from average home consumers?

I find my Samsung NC10 really very usefull indeed - I love using it. It's done all sorts of things no other machine could really do (like be powered off a car battery in the middle of a field with a USB capture card being fed by an IR camera that was pointing at a dog trap to try and find a lost dog, uploading images via 3G to the web and automatically emailing me when things changed in the F.O.V )

No - not really. 160Gb netbooks - <�300 - that's an order of magnitude more storage than the basic iPad - for less money. You could whack a 500gb drive in for �60/$100 and still be WELL under the price of the 32 Gig iPad (without 3G)

Typically the laws that exist are aimed to prevent you from depriving others of their rights as a citizen, and typically those laws exist only where there's a long history of that happening.

I really don't get why people who come up with specs don't think ahead. When SD came out it has a 2GB limit. So they updated it, SDHC for a 32GB limit. Now they had to update it again, SDXC for a 2TB limit. They should have just designed the format to scale in the FIRST place.
For example: CompactFlash came out in like 1994 and has scaled all the way up to like 137GB, when the first cards were under 1MB.
Yeah, they scaled just fine when it came to sizes. But instead they are at like the 6:th revision when it comes to speed capabilities.

One thing that is important to investors is the ranking of units shipped (in comparison to other companies.) Apple is currently 4th behind Gateway -- but VERY close!! Q4 2006 should bring Apple to the 3rd place for US shipments in America, behind Dell and HP. That will turn a lot of heads. You'll have to explain how a person would do a worse job simply because of their ethnicity.
I don't actually think ethnicity makes a difference but it's an interesting thought experiment.
Imagine you move to a country where nobody talks to white people. White people are totally ignored, irrespective of anything. Naturally then, if you employed a white person to work in a shop they'd do an awful job because they wouldn't be able to serve any of the racist clientele.
If we can choose against people by how well they'd do a job, and being white would mean you couldn't do a job, could we choose not to employ a white person because of this?

Whoever advised them to now put the maps onboard and download as needed, needs to be fired- poor decision.
bad decision. apps like motion gps I'd pay $0.99 for and use the maps over the air.
If I'm going to pay $40 for a gps app it'd be cause I relied on it. Wouldn't chance having service.
I've been using the iPhone's Google maps in that way for almost 3 years and I have not once had that be an issue.
I dunno, I guess something bad could happen, but it sure doesn't seem likely to me at this point. And even if it does happen to me soon I'm prepard for "once every 3 years" as a failure rate.
Agreed. Downloading anything on Edge is awful, but downloading mission critical graphical maps and directions when you get lost? Just dumb.
Ok, but when a road changes and you don't have the newest map then what are you doing? Manually downloading is what.
I'd rather it be an automatic process.
Both methods have drawbacks: "Not always available" vs. "Not always current."
Given that I've never had a problem with availability, I'm actually interested in an app that promises to stay current without my having to download maps manually ahead of time.

'The military' are people, and even if you happen to be in the oh-so-unique moral high ground of opposing war and violence from your comfortable desk, soldiers deserve the best kit we can afford to give them. I'm hoping one of the super secret features is a completely reworked Finder. While I don't think it's a deal-breaker by any means, I have to agree with those who say that the Finder is generally sluggish in ways that it should not be. I have a Windows XP box on my desk next to my G5 and XP's windows and menus are lightning fast and immediately responsive. Further, icons and file lists are pulled up instantaneously. With the Finder on the G5, there's always that little pause or the list of files take a second or two to show up or icons take a while to load. There's no reason Apple shouldn't be equal to or better than XP's interface, but it's not. It's the one area where Apple hasn't quite nailed it.
Still, I would take OS X over XP any day, but it sure would be good news to me to hear a fully revamped Finder with all these slowdowns ironed out.

I wasn 't buying any of the in depth analysis people were making over the New Year splash, but now...
We can be pretty sure the two images represent colours and styles involved in a new theme - whether that theme is simply a logo for iTV (most likely), Leopard (still pretty likely) or an iPhone/new iPod (unlikely, just because... it doesn't look very relevant) is unknown.
I hope it's Leopard tbh. I couldn't give a sh�t about iTV.

I'd get one just for Zelda, Pilotwings and Starfox. But not at �230! That's ridiculous for a handheld machine that's primarily aimed at kids. Especially with the current global financial situation.
The 3 - 5 hour battery life is pathetic and the 3D effect can apparently cause headaches. Nine to 12 months after release, when Nintendo inevitably release the new 3DS+, with a much increased battery life for a much more reasonable price I'll consider it. But only if I can have a play with one for a few hours first to make sure my head doesn't explode from the 3D effect.
Anyway, have fun with Pilotwings. See you summer 2012.
